Project 01
The edit within film and animation is what allows us as creators to communicate an idea with a beginning, middle, and end. These three elements form a full thought, an arc, or an emotional journey. Birth, Transformation, Death. (or Birth, Death, Transformation). Hypothesis, synthesis, conclusion. Posing a question. Researching the question. Answering the question.
Each of these segments can often times be represented by an emotional state. For Birth, we have energy of the warrior setting out on the quest. For Death, he has lost all hope when he finds himself defeated. And transformation, he finds the strength to move on in other ways, pursue a new adventure. A tree in summer (summer), a tree in winter (death), a tree in spring (transformation) An icecube (birth), a puddle (death), evaporation (transformation).
The edit is composed of the cut. Hard cuts, match cuts, wipes, etc. In other words, a transition from one scene to the next.
Within a 30 second animation provide 3 separate scenes that represent the concept of Beginning, Middle, End. Scenes can be a tableau, diorama style with concrete imagery, or more abstract with representational forms.
Emphasis will be placed upon consideration of the transition. Are you doing a match cut? Are you morphing from one scene to the next?
