Nate King is an interdisciplinary artist focusing on animation, digital compositing, and projection. Using frame by frame animation, performance, and collage, King’s work explores ideas of identity, queer ecology, myth making, nostalgia, and digital aesthetics. He teaches as an assistant professor at Virginia Tech in the School of Visual Arts.
King has attended several prestigious residencies, including Wassaic Project (2025, NY), Haystack Mountain School of Craft (2024, ME), CharNorth Artist Residency (2024, NY), Stove Works (2023, TN), and ACRE (2021, WI). King’s films have been included in Frameline (2025), Atlanta Film Festival (2025), OutFest Los Angeles Film Festival (2023), Vancouver Queer Film Festival (2023), Sweaty Eyeballs Animation Festival (2024) Appalachian Queer Film Festival (2024), Wicked Queer: Boston’s LGBTQ+ Film Festival (2025), and more.
King’s work has been exhibited in national and international spaces, including Wassaic Project, NY (2026), Greenville Museum of Art, Greenville, NC, (2022) Deiglan Gilfélagið, Akureyri, Iceland, (2021), Drama Club Gallery, Chicago, IL (2021), and Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, Virginia Beach, VA (2020).
King holds an MFA in Digital Arts and Animation from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
